“2008 WSLS-TV MAY SWEEPSTAKES”
OFFICIAL SWEEPSTAKES RULES
1. No purchase is necessary. A purchase will not increase your chances of winning.
2. To be eligible to enter or win, you must be at least eighteen (18) years old and reside within the WSLS Television Viewing Area at the time of entry.
3. This Sweepstakes is subject to all federal, state and local laws. Void where prohibited by law. By entering, participants agree to these Official Rules.
4. Forty-Nine (49) Daily Prize Winners.
5. Five (5) Grand Prize Winners.
6. Limit one (1) entry per person per household. Limit one (1) Daily Prize per person.
7. Sweepstakes begins on April 28, 2008 and ends on May 21, 2008. Deadline for all entries is May 19, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Savings Time (“EDST”).
8. The geographic scope of this promotion is the WSLS Television Viewing Area within the states of Virginia and West Virginia. Sweepstakes is sponsored by Media General Operations, Inc., d/b/a WSLS-TV (“WSLS-TV”).
9. Odds of winning any prize depend on how many properly completed entry forms are received by WSLS-TV prior to the stated deadlines.
PRIZES
10. Description of Prizes:
Daily Prizes (49): Each Daily Prize will consist of a $25.00 gift certificate, redeemable at Mama Maria’s Family Restaurant, 2025 W. Main Street, Salem, VA 24153. Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”): $25.
Grand Prizes (5):
i. April 30, 2008 Drawing: One (1) Large Outdoor Playset provided by Woodplay of Roanoke, 4040 Franklin Road, SW, Roanoke, VA 24014. "Classic Fort" with a 3-position swingbeam, vinyl roof and 10' wave slide. Delivery and assembly within a 50-mile radius are included. ARV: $2,000.
ii. May 7, 2008 Drawing: One (1) Weber Signature Series Gas Grill Model No. 12345, Weber Summit Platinum D6, Weber Model No. 7790001, stainless steel, provided by Greenbrier Nurseries, Inc, 5881 Starkey Road SW, Roanoke, VA 24018. Delivery and assembly within a 50-mile radius are included. ARV: $2,300.
iii. May 14, 2008 Drawing: One (1) Five-Piece Living Room Suite manufactured by Ashley Furniture, consisting of one Sofa (No. 8765035/38), two End Tables (T452-13), and two Lamps (L140514), supplied by Peppercorn Incorporated, d/b/a Premier Rental Purchase, 3133 Williamson Road NE, Roanoke, VA 24012. Delivery and assembly within a 50-mile radius are included. Living Room Suite has been pre-selected by Sponsor and may be seen at the Premier Rental Purchase showroom. ARV: $4,500.
iv. May 21, 2008 Drawing: One (1) 14-Karat Yellow Gold 1½ Carat Diamond Necklace from Eden Roc, provided by Frank L. Moose Jeweler, Inc., 207 First Street, SW, Roanoke, VA 24011. Necklace contains seventeen (17) diamonds, G-H in color and SI 1 or 2 in clarity. Delivery and appraisal are included. Diamond Carat weights represent the approximate total weight of all diamonds in each setting and may vary no more than .07 below the stated weight. ARV: $5,000.
v. May 21, 2008 Drawing: One (1) 2008 Toyota Yaris automobile, Stock No. 15254, Serial No. JTDJT923285167577, provided by Haley Toyota of Roanoke, 2711 Franklin Road, SW, Roanoke, VA 24014. ARV: $13,000
ADDITIONAL PRIZE RESTRICTIONS
11. Winners assume sole responsibility for all costs associated with prizes not explicitly outlined above, including but not limited to, delivery or assembly charges for winners residing more than 50 miles from WSLS-TV, vehicle insurance, tax, title and tag, registration fees, any and all cable and/or high-definition programming, taxes, fees, and surcharges on a prize, federal, state and other taxes relating to any prize, or other costs or expenses relating to any prize that are not expressly included in the above descriptions. Any portion of any prize not used by any winner is forfeited and no cash substitute will be offered or permitted. Prizes carry no warranties of any type, whether express or implied, except as may be offered by manufacturer or prize supplier or otherwise required by law
12. Prizes are not transferable, substitutable, or exchangeable for cash except that WSLS-TV in its discretion may substitute a prize of equal or greater value. Any such changes will be announced.
ELIGIBILITY
13. No purchase necessary.
14. Participants must be at least eighteen (18) years old and reside within the WSLS Television Viewing Area at the time of entry.
15. Employees of Media General Operations, Inc. d/b/a WSLS-TV, Woodplay of Roanoke, Greenbrier Nurseries, Inc., Peppercorn Incorporated d/b/a Premier Rental Purchase, Frank L. Moose Jeweler, Inc., Haley Toyota and of the affiliates, subsidiaries, distributors, suppliers, franchisees, promoters, and agents of any of these, and the immediate families (defined as spouse, parents, siblings or children) of the employees of any of these, are not eligible.
16.On or about April 21, 2008, 100,000 contest mailers will be mailed to residents in the WSLS viewing area. The forms will be available on line at www.wsls.com and inserted into the Crimetracker Magazine as well as other participating Media General publications in the Roanoke-Lynchburg designated market area. Sweepstakes starts Monday, April 28, 2008, and ends Wednesday, May 21, 2008. Deadline for all entries is May 19, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. EDST. To be eligible for a particular Daily Prize Drawing, entries must be received by WSLS-TV no later than 5:00 p.m. EDST on the day prior to that day’s Daily Prize drawings. Daily Prize Drawings will commence on April 28, 2008.
17. Each mailer will contain one (1) Official Entry Form. To enter, complete the Official Entry Form, then either drop it off at WSLS-TV during normal business hours or mail it to “2008 WSLS MAY SWEEPSTAKES” c/o WSLS-TV, 401 3rd Street SW, Roanoke, VA 24011 to be received by WSLS-TV by the deadlines described above. Only original Official Entry Forms are eligible; no copies or mechanical reproductions will be accepted. All entry forms become the property of WSLS-TV and will not be acknowledged or returned.
DAILY PRIZE DRAWING
18. Each weekday starting on April 28, 2008 and ending on May 21, 2008, WSLS-TV will randomly draw three (3) names from all timely and complete entries received. One (1) name will be verbally mentioned and displayed within the 5:00 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. EDST weekday broadcasts of the WSLS-TV News. If your name is verbally mentioned and displayed, you must call 540-981-9110 within ten (10) minutes of your name being verbally mentioned and displayed. If you fail to call within thirty (30) minutes of your name being verbally mentioned and displayed, you will be disqualified from that prize. An alternate winner will be selected (for the grand prizes only) on the subsequent weekday. If the alternate winner fails to call within thirty (30) minutes of his/her name being verbally mentioned and displayed, that potential winner will be disqualified from that prize and that prize will not be awarded. Subject to verification of eligibility, the individuals whose names are verbally mentioned and displayed and who contact the station within the stated time frame will be declared Daily Prize Winners. Unclaimed Daily Prizes will not be awarded. You need not be present to win.
GRAND PRIZE DRAWING
19. Each Wednesday starting on April 30, 2008 and ending on May 21, 2008, one (1) entry will be selected by a random drawing of all timely and complete entries received. Two (2) Grand Prize drawings will be held on May 21, 2008. That name will be verbally mentioned and displayed during a commercial break either within the 5:00 p.m., 5:30 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. EDST broadcast of the WSLS-TV News Show that Wednesday, as determined by the station. If your name is verbally mentioned and displayed, you must call 540-512-1544 within thirty (30) minutes of your name being verbally mentioned and displayed. If you fail to call within thirty (30) minutes of your name being verbally mentioned and displayed, you will be disqualified from that prize and an alternate potential winner will be selected. If the alternate winner fails to call within thirty (30) minutes of his/her name being verbally mentioned and displayed, that potential winner will be disqualified from that prize and a third alternate potential winner will be selected. This process will continue on the subsequent weekday in the same time periods and manner as described above until all the Grand Prizes have been awarded. Subject to verification of eligibility, the individuals whose names are verbally mentioned and displayed as described in this paragraph and who contact the station within the stated time frame will be declared Grand Prize Winners.
VERIFICATION OF WINNERS
20. Winners may be verified over the telephone when they call the station in response to their name being verbally mentioned and displayed. Winners will be required to provide WSLS-TV with valid identification and execute an affidavit of eligibility. Acceptable identification includes a valid driver’s license or other valid picture ID showing name and address. Faxes will not be accepted. Winners may also be required to sign other legal documents, including tax forms and a release supplied by WSLS-TV, which, among other disclaimers, releases WSLS-TV, Media General Operations, Inc., and a range of subsidiaries, directors, agents, agencies, affiliates, franchisees, promoters, officers, directors, employees and related persons from any and all liability related to this Sweepstakes and the receipt and use of any prize. Prizes will be delivered to those Daily Prize Winners and Grand Prize Winners who reside within a fifty mile radius of WSLS-TV. Winners who do not reside within 50 miles of WSLS-TV will be required to pick up their Prize at WSLS-TV or to make arrangements for delivery of such Prizes at their sole expense. If a winner who resides outside the 50-mile radius fails to pick up or make arrangements for delivery of his or her prize within 30 days of his or her name being announced, he or she will forfeit that Prize and that Prize will be treated as an unclaimed Prize (below). If a potential winner’s eligibility cannot be confirmed, he or she does not return all requested documents within the required time period, or he/she otherwise declines to accept or claim his or her prize, WSLS-TV in its sole discretion may disqualify that winner and select an alternate winner. Alternate winners are subject to all eligibility requirements and restrictions of these Official Rules.
20. WSLS-TV, Media General Operations, Inc., their affiliates, subsidiaries or agencies will not be responsible for the inability to select or confirm winners because of postal failure, equipment failure, telecommunications or telephone failure, or data storage failure, or because of any other failure not within their control.
MISCELLANEOUS
21. All federal, state and local laws apply. WSLS-TV shall be entitled to interpret these rules as needed — including but not limited to rules regarding entries, selection of winner, deadlines, restrictions on prizes, and eligibility — and all of its decisions are final. By entering, participants agree to these Official Rules. WSLS-TV reserves the right to cancel, terminate or suspend this Sweepstakes or any part of this Sweepstakes should any non-authorized intervention, network failure, information storage failure, telecommunications failure, malfunction, or other causes beyond its control, corrupt or impair the security, administration, fairness and/or operation of this Sweepstakes as determined by WSLS-TV in its sole discretion in which case WSLS-TV will select Winners in a random drawing of all non-suspect entries received prior to the termination or suspension of the Sweepstakes. WSLS-TV and Media General Operations, Inc. are not responsible for lost, interrupted, or unavailable network, server, or other connections, or for any failed telephone or computer hardware or software, or for any failed, delayed, misdirected, corrupted, or for illegible, mutilated, incomplete or postage-due entries, garbled transmissions or errors of any kind, whether human, mechanical, or electronic, or for entries that for any reason are not received by WSLS-TV by the deadline stated above. WSLS-TV and Media General Operations, Inc. are also not responsible for any injury or damage to any computer, modem or other electrical device as a result of participation in this Sweepstakes or downloading of any software or materials. WSLS-TV reserves the right to correct typographical or clerical errors in any sweepstakes-related materials. No more than the stated number of prizes will be awarded. In the event that production, technical, seeding, programming or any other reasons cause more than the stated number of prizes as set forth in these Official Rules to be available and/or claimed, WSLS-TV reserves the right to award only the stated number of prizes by a random drawing among all legitimate, un-awarded, eligible prize claims.
DISQUALIFICATION
22. WSLS-TV reserves the right to prohibit any entrant from participating in the Sweepstakes if, at its sole discretion, WSLS-TV finds such entrant to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Sweepstakes, or if such entrant repeatedly shows a disregard for, or attempts to circumvent, these Rules, or acts: (a) in a manner WSLS-TV determines to be not fair or equitable; (b) with an intent to annoy, threaten or harass any other entrant or WSLS-TV; or (c) in any other disruptive manner. Any person attempting to defraud or tamper with this Sweepstakes in any way will be ineligible for prizes and may be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Any failure by WSLS-TV to enforce any of these Rules shall not constitute a waiver of such Rules. WSLS-TV has neither made nor are responsible or liable for any warranty, representation, or guarantee, express or implied, in fact or in law, relative to any prize, including but not limited to its quality, mechanical condition or fitness for a particular purpose, except to the extent provided expressly in writing by WSLS-TV or as required by law.
PUBLICITY RELEASE
23. By accepting any prize, winners agree to award WSLS-TV the right to publicize their names, photographs (including the use and appearance of winners’ photographs on WSLS-TV web page), likenesses, biographical information, e-mail addresses, voices and details of winning for purposes of this and future promotions without further compensation, except where prohibited.
